SCHOLARSHIP

Thank you for your interest in Senator James' Senatorial Scholarship. Applications are due by May 1, 2024 and we expect scholarship money to be awarded by late June. Applicants must reside within Maryland Legislative District 34 and must also submit a current FAFSA or MSFAA with an address located within District 34. Please reach out to Senator James' office at 410-841-3158 with any questions. If you prefer to mail the application and supporting documents requested below (SAR, Transcript, Short Answers) you can mail your application package to:

Scholarship Details:

The Maryland Senatorial Scholarship is offered to Maryland residents who plan to pursue a postsecondary credential full-time (12+ credits undergraduate or 9+ credits graduate per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits undergraduate or 6-8 credits graduate per semester) at a two-year or four-year Maryland college, university or private career school.

Applicants must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa by March 1, each year. If you are eligible for in-state tuition, but ineligible to receive federal financial aid, you must submit the Maryland State Financial Aid Application (MSFAA) instead. To complete the MSFAA online, click here to access the Maryland College Aid Processing System (MDCAPS). 

Eligible Majors:

All in-state majors are eligible.

Out of state options:

Award recipients may use this scholarship at an out-of-state school if your major is not available at any Maryland institution. The 2024 - 2025 Unique Major Application will be available in March 2024 and will be available on the MHEC website. Please contact Senator James' office if you need help. The deadline to apply for a unique major waiver is July 31, 2024.​
