Harmers Town Art Center Grant

I had the pleasure of attending a celebration of the funding approved for the Harmers Town Art Center (HTAC) in Havre de Grace. HTAC provides an exciting future for Havre de Grace and will help connect the city’s downtown business corridor with its waterfront amenities. It is always gratifying to visit our communities and see what a positive impact the General Assembly can have on Harford County.

Maryland Prepaid College Savings Trust

Maryland’s Treasurer recently assumed control over the state’s 529 Prepaid College Savings Trust plan following legislation that was passed during the 2023 legislative session. Treasurer Davis announced that for contributions in an account before Nov. 1, 2021, the annual earnings rate will be 6% compounded monthly and applied retroactively to the date of contribution. For contributions posted on or after Nov. 1, 2021, the annual earnings rate will be equal to the 10-year Treasury note, compounded monthly. Claims will not need to be filed to receive these earnings, as they will appear in accounts as soon as the system is updated, the treasurer's office said. Inquiries regarding specific accounts should be directed to existing Maryland 529 contacts, which can be found at https://maryland529.com/About-Us/Contact-Us or by emailing md529@treasurer.state.md.us.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact my office at 410-841-3158 or marydulany.james@senate.state.md.us

Sincerely,

Mary-Dulany James Senator, District 34, Maryland General Assembly
